About the class

Note: This class takes place every day from Aug 10th to 14th. It starts at 3:00pm and ends at 3:30pm PDT each day.

About the Class

In this live series of classes, kids get to listen to enthralling African Folktales and act out scenes from the tales. Each session focuses on a different story and every session is just as educational as it is entertaining. One day we could talk about how African folklore inspired some popular Superheroes we know and love today, another day we could talk about the history of African tribes and warriors. This class will have the kids moving and talking as they act out scenes and eagerly wait to find out how the story ends. There is no dull moment! Recommended for kids aged 5 to 10.

Stories

  • Aug 10 – Story B – Why girls wear their hair long
  • Aug 11  – Story C – Anansi and the yam hills
  • Aug 12  – Story D – The elephant and the hare
  • Aug 13  – Story E – The careless mermaid
  • Aug 14  – Story F – Lightning & Thunder

Why Take This Class?

Learning about culture can either help children connect with their roots and appreciate their own history more, or it can help them better appreciate diversity so that they can respectfully interact and engage with people from different backgrounds. They will also learn a little about geopgraphy and history.

Using folktales is a fun way for kids to learn about other cultures because who doesn’t love a good story? The stories in this class are captivating and entertaining, and are most likely like nothing the kids have ever heard before, which makes the session all that more enchanting. Plus, folktales often teach an important life lesson so the children will finish the class a little wiser than they were before the class began.

So, whether you want them to learn about culture or you are just looking for something for them to do, this class is sure to have your children captivated and entertained the whole way through.
